A one year training program of 15 students (Both Male & Female) from Gilgit Baltistan is under progress at GJTMC Gilgit, sponsored by Secretary Minerals, Industries, Commerce, & Labor Gilgit Baltistan. These students will undergo a rigorous training of Gem Identification, Gem Carving & Gem Faceting. The training is aimed to prepare and equip the youth of Gilgit Baltistan with latest techniques of lapidary, to make them able to earn an honorable livelihood by production of cut, faceted and polished stones using locally available rough stones, and to make them key players in earning foreign revenue for Pakistan as gem entrepreneurs.
Future Plans:
GJTMC aims to boost the production of local gemstones to national and international markets through commercial cutting of gemstones of interested dealers/parties against minimum service charges as per the quality, quantity and hardness of the stone. Negotiated rates will be offered. Value addition will be made through this at one side, and will earn a return for the government investment on the other.
