Treasures of Balochistan

“One of the most striking characteristic proudly held by Pakistan, is the diversity and mixture of some very old traditions, which combine together to become the Culture of Pakistan. The richness and magnificence reflected in Pakistani traditions and values remain incomplete without the contributions of Punjab’s pluralism, Sindh’s spiritualism, NWFP’s nationalism and Balochistan’s briskness. A tasteful amalgamation of these ancient belief systems is what we call the Culture of Pakistan.

Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan by geographical area, constituting approximately 48% of the total area of Pakistan. Having the luxury of strategic importance, Balochistan shares its borders with Sindh, Punjab, NWFP, Afghanistan, Iran and the Arabian Sea. A land of mythical mountain ranges and legendry folklore, Balochistan never ceases to amaze the visitors who come here to witness the phases of history.

Balochistan, in its ancient history, has often come across ups and downs in terms of prosperity, political situations, economy and socialism. Balochistan was invaded by various Eurasian groups including the Persians, Greeks, Kushans, Arabs, Turks, Mongols, Mughals, Afghans, and the British. In recent history Balochistan was governed by nationalist personalities like Ghaus Bux Bizenjo, Sardar Ataullah Mengal, Khair Bux Marri, Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Khan Wali Khan.

Howsoever, nothing could defile the splendour of Balochistan, which still is gravely revered by the locals. Among many of its treasures, are the verity of gemstones and jewellery that have their own uniqueness borne into those. Precious stones like Emerald, Apatite, Sapphire, Corals, Agate, Amber, Tourmaline, Lead glass filled Ruby, Topaz, Copal, Turquoise, Lapis lazuli, Quartz, Fluorite, Garnet and Peridot are traded in the region. These precious gemstones, found in the enveloped mines, are unearthed by industrious individuals who are attached to this business. Many individuals are devotedly attached to this business of gemstone trading and work tirelessly to deliver their products in the finest manner. Customers are highly valued and products are cherished by the trade members. Countless stories are reflected in the sheen of these dazzling pieces of craft. A glimpse of this natural treasure is presented here.”
