Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company signed an MoU on 22nd April 2010 with the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology and the FATA Development Program (Livelihoods Development) for the establishment of Gems and Jewellery Centre of Excellence in Peshawar. The ceremony was held at the Governor House in Peshawar attended by Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and US Consul General Ms. Candace Putnam
The FATA Centre of Excellence will be a project of Rs. 50 million funded by the USAID. The Centre over the next 5 years is expected to create an enormous impact in many neglected areas such as skill development, employment generation, reduction in wastage and value addition in products.
PGJDC’s role at the FATA Centre of Excellence is vital because of its contribution in the areas of skill development and technology up-gradation. The Company keenly looks forward to a sustainable development of the Gems & Jewellery sector in the FATA region.
This collaboration between these entities is based on a collective commitment to enhance the capacity of the Gemstone sector of the FATA region. The FATA Centre of Excellence will be expected to provide a lucrative platform for the people in the sector in order to upgrade their skills and knowledge in different aspects of the gems and jewellery.
