Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company has been participating in international gems and jewellery exhibitions in order to provide a global exposure and multicultural trends and techniques related to the Gems & Jewellery industry. Companies from all over Pakistan have been participating in these trade shows, as a Pakistan pavilion, under the brand,


or as a part of a Pakistan delegation. Visits to international market have brought a firsthand knowledge about the contemporary techniques and ideas used worldwide today.

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company participated for the fifth consecutive time in the 48th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair which was held from 14th to 18th September 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Company set up a Pakistan Pavilion at the Fair which included prominent traders who displayed their products in the stalls. Information about precious and semi-precious stones found in Pakistan was provided to the visitors who not only admired the fine quality of Pakistani stones but also the craftsmanship and innovative styles of the jewelry products displayed there. More than 50 producers from Pakistan visited the event, three more companies from Pakistan namely Hafiz Gems Stones (Peshawar), Al-Asr Enterprises (Peshawar), and Kellyrees (Lahore) also participated in the Fair under the Pakistan Pavilion.

The Bangkok Fair is a recognized international event and is attended by more than 30,000 visitors from around the world and more than 1500 companies from more 28 countries participate in the Fair from all over the world. Pakistan has been regularly taking part in the Bangkok Fair for several years now.

To accentuate the importance attached by Pakistan to the development of the Gems & Jewellery sector, the Minister of State for Production Khawaja Sheeraz Mahmood visited the Fair including the Pakistan Pavilion. During his stay in Bangkok, the Minister of State met with the president of Thai Gems & Jewelry Traders Association, Mr. Somchai Phornchindarak and met notable business community and gemstones and jewellery institutions and associations.

The Honorable Minister visited the Pakistan Pavilion in the Fair, where he met with the exhibitors and appreciated them for their efforts encouraging their maximum participation and support to PGJDCs endeavors for the development of the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan.

He also undertook separate visits to the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS) as well as Gemopolis Free Zone, where he was extensively briefed on the working of these vibrant entities. Commercial Counsellor, Syed Zafar Ali Shah; Deputy Secretary and GM Finance & Administration Ministry of Production, Mr. Shahnawaz Burney and Marketing Manager PGJDC, Mr. Shams Hirani accompanied the Minister during the meetings.

During these meetings, the Minister of State particularly focused on enhancing mutual collaboration between Pakistan and Thailand with regard to exchange of expertise and know-how in the areas of skill development, technology up-gradation and business and trade for the development of Pakistans Gems & Jewelry sector.

The Minister directed Pakistan Gems & Jewelry Development Company to ensure larger participation in the Bangkok Fair next time in 2012 and also prepare training plans for the sector which can be shared with Thailand Institutions for technical collaboration.

A group of students from the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD), undergoing short training in Thailand, also visited the Bangkok Fair and Pakistan Pavilion in the Fair.

The Pakistan Pavilion was also visited by Pakistans Ambassador to Thailand on the first day of the exhibition. The Ambassador highlighted the importance of Pakistans regular presence and profile at the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair and noted the potential for this sector to make a significant contribution to the growth of trade between Pakistan and Thailand. He also visited the stalls set up by Pakistani traders in their individual capacity.

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) organized a glittering Pakistan Pavilion at the GJX Show (1-6 February 2011) in Tucson, USA.

There are currently over 30 independently owned and operated shows held almost simultaneously during the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show during the season January and February every year with over 3,000 exhibitors citywide. With an area of 110,000 square feet and 700 booths, GJX is the biggest show in Tucson.

PGJDC had set up Pakistan Pavilion in Tucson, USA with the occupation of eight booths at the Premiere Pavilion section in the GJX Show. Ten exhibitors from Pakistan participated in the Show and displayed a variety of gemstones, mineral specimens and stone studded jewellery.

The Pakistan Pavilion was well felt by the visitors at the Show as PGJDC had marketed it well to attract the leg traffic at the pavilion. Pakistan Pavilion's Ad appeared in the GJX Directory and also a poster appeared at the entrance of the Show.

A variety of cut and rough gemstones including ruby, emerald, peridot, acquamarine, tourmaline, topaz, garnett, quartz; stone studded jewellery and mineral specimens was at display at the Pakistan Pavilion.

The exhibitors reported full satisfaction and appreciated PGJDC for selecting GJX Show this year in Tucson. A variety of buyers and traders of cut gemstones and jewellery visited the pavilion and got engaged in business with the Pakistani exhibitors.

I personally had a great show and considering this being the first show that I attended at GJX, I gained an insight about GJX and I believe it can only get better from here." Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) has set up Pakistan Pavilion in the Mineralientage Munchen (Munich Mineral and Gem Show 2010) under the brand name "Gems & Jewellery - Pakistan". The show started from October 29, 2010 and ended on October 31, 2010.

This is the second time that PGJDC participated in the Munich Show since 2009.

PGJDC took exhibitors from all over Pakistan in the Munich Mineral Show. These exhibitors selected from Karachi, Lahore, Quetta & Peshawar. The exhibitors have decorated the Pakistan pavilion with precious and semi precious gemstones and mineral specimens which are found from different regions of the country. The exhibiting companies gained the experience of creating business linkages and insightful observation of unique European markets. They have learnt new trends and innovations in technology and business techniques in the international gems and jewellery arena.

Participation in the Munich Mineral Show holds greater significance, as it is one of the largest mineral trade shows and international meeting points for collectors, dealers and exhibitors worldwide.

The Munich Mineral and Gem Show has established itself in 47 years as Europe's most important and traditional trade show for the public and visiting professionals. Annually in autumn over 1,250 exhibitors from 56 countries present the most precious specimens that the world of minerals, gems and fossils has to offer. Around 40,000 visitors come every year to witness the newest trends in the market.

Dubai International Jewellery Week, Dubai - UAE (07 - 10 October 2010)
 
This year Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company participated for the fourth time in Dubai International Jewellery Week (DIJW) was held from 7th to 10th October 2010.

PGJDC organized Pakistan Pavilion in the DIJW. In Pakistan Pavilion. Ten bright and well established gems/jewellery companies from the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan displayed their products brought from different regions of the country. These products displayed under the brand name Gems & Jewellery - Pakistan.

Previously PGJDC participated in the Dubai International Jewellery Week in the year 2007, 2008 and 2009. This is the fourth consecutive participation in the exhibition is a part of the process of broadening the exposure of the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan continuously.

Dubai is a fast growing market and is a land which is of interest to both the eastern and the western world. Traders from around the world are attracted to it because of easy customs rules and low duty structure. Today Dubai stands out as a hub for trade of all kind.

It is the ideal forum for manufacturers, wholesalers, retailer and industry professionals at large, looking to establish business relationships in the whole region. There is lot of interest for jewellery, gemstones, pearls and diamonds in this market.

Dubai, being the hub of international trade, fascinates the buyers and sellers from all over the globe and this enormous leg traffic of international buyers brings diversity in taste and preferences. This diversity in buyer taste complements the variety of Pakistani jewellery. Middle Eastern market has always been crucial to the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan for the homogeneity in tastes and cultures which have been established in UAE. Pakistani jewellery, in its various delightful forms, attracts masses of population in UAE. The Middle Eastern market for Gems & Jewellery is a consequential target market for the flourishing Gems & Jewellery trade sector of Pakistan and its potential can be effectively utilized in order to bring on par, the local industry with the leading industries of the world.
 
Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, Hong Kong (16 - 20 September 2010)

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) participated in the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair which was held from 14th to 20th September 2010 at the Asia World Expo (AWE) and the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. The Company set up Pakistan pavilion at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre which started on 16th September 2010 and ended on 20th September 2010.

The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair is one of the biggest fairs in the world and the biggest in Aisa. It showcases the world class variety of gemstones and jewellery in its two different fairs as mentioned above.

Exhibitors from Pakistan participated in the Fair under Pakistan pavilion displaying some of the finest jewellery (studded with precious and semi precious stones) including necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, etc. The products were of the best quality attracting a lot of customers to buy the Pakistani jewellery.

PGJDC also set up its own booth in the Pakistan pavilion displaying Company’s promotional material and also importantly projected its training institutes (which are called Gems & Jewellery Training and Manufacturing Centres running successfully in Karachi, Lahore and Gilgit and also soon opening soon in Peshawar and Quetta) through the jewellery models prepared through Rapid Prototyping machine (a new technology of designing and manufacturing jewellery products on large scale with accuracy and quality). An overwhelming interest from the international customers generated for these products and the Company received lots of inquiries for the production of the models. These models were prepared by the students of GJTMCs who studied the course of Computer Aided Jewellery Designing and Computer Aided Jewellery Manufacturing which are also referred to as CAD/CAM.

The Chief Executive of PGJDC Mr. Bashir Ahmed Abbasi held meetings with international gems and jewellery experts, associations and consultants to explore the possibilities of further openings and development for the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan.

The Pakistan pavilion was also visited by the Consul General Pakistan Consulate in Hong Kong and his team. The Pakistan pavilion also received excellent support from the Pakistan Consulate in Hong Kong at all levels from coordination to the ground support through their staff.

The Chief Executive said, "PGJDC’s participation Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair” has been really a great learning experience not only for the Company but importantly also for the exhibiting companies who have participated under our umbrella. This is what has been the motive of PGJDC, i.e. to enable the Pakistani gems & jewellery companies to develop B2B linkages in the international markets through participating in international exhibitions.

The international buyers took a great interest in Pakistani gemstones, which gives a great encouragement for the exhibitors in the show.

The Chief Executive of PGJDC Mr. Bashir Ahmed Abbasi met with the President of Thai Gems & Jewellery Trade Association (organizers of the Bangkok Fair) and discussed areas to be explored for the development of the Gems& Jewellery industry of Pakistan. The Chief Executive also visited Gemopolis (free trade zone) - a state of the art facility established in Bangkok for the enhancement of trade, business and manufacturing of gems and jewellery in Thailand. The Chief Executive also held meetings with international gems and jewellery experts, associations and consultants to explore the possibilities of further openings and development for the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan.
