Introduction of Assaying and Hallmarking Scheme in the country is one of the major initiatives on which Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) is working. Implementation of Assaying and Hallmarking Scheme in the Pakistan will be a milestone to steering the jewellery industry in line with the Hallmarking Convention and as per International standards.

The goals and objectives of introducing Hallmarking in Pakistan are:

Assaying:
Refers to the determination of the fineness/composition of the actual content of precious metal (Gold, Silver, Palladium and Platinum) in the alloy of precious metal.

Hallmarking:
Refers to the physically marking a piece of jewelry according to specific laws to certify the purity of metal. Hallmarks are small markings stamped on articles of precious metals.
